Welcome to OASFAA

Community Outreach

OASFAA has contributed to many local charities over the years, collecting food, clothing, toys, and funds for agencies that care for the needy in our communities. Because the members of OASFAA serve to promote the opportunity for post-secondary education, OASFAA tries to target the needs of a particular population, often underserved children, in the community in which the annual conference is held.

The Local Arrangements Committee recommend a new service project every year to the OASFAA Board in an effort to meet the needs of that particular population with a collection drive at the annual conference. Themes and items requested for collection will be announced to the OASFAA membership, via the OASFAA listserv, prior to the annual conference.

If you have a suggestion for a charitable organization to be represented at the conference, please email the Local Arrangements Chair.

2019 Conference Service Project

Every year, OASFAA supports a service project, and the 2019 project benefits Coffee Bunker.

Coffee Bunker meets veterans "where they are" and helps with the transition to family and community life.

  • Getting Connected: At the Coffee Bunker, veterans can make connections with other veterans, representatives from other veteran organizations, resource people related to employement and education, and others who can facilitate transition to civilian life.
  • Finding Community: Veterans can transition to civilian life easier when they have a community for a base. The Coffee Bunker is all about community to support vets.
  • Receiving Support: In attempting to make full transition to civilian life, veterans need support in a variety of ways. Support through the Bunker is available for life basics: food, clothing, and a place to gather. Peer support is available for managing personal issues, being successful in college, finding and keeping employment, and family enrichment.

At the 2019 OASFAA conference, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to Coffee Bunker through a basket raffle or directly to Coffee Bunker. OASFAA Board members and Committee Chairs will create widely varying themed baskets and will be raffled at Thursday evening's dinner.
